Simple and easy trap to build without all of the nasty chemicals and it's safe around kids
A simple trap is made from a plastic bottle. The yeast and sugar bait is placed inside the bottle to create the CO2 plume for luring the bugs into the trap. Following the CO2 trail down through the funnel shaped entrance, the mosquitoes fly along the insides of the bottle looking for the exit. When they can't find their way back out, the bugs eventually tire and fall to the bottom of the trap to die.
HOW TO MAKE THE TRAP
Items needed:
1 cup of water
1 Cup of lemon juice
1/4 cup of brown sugar
1 gram of yeast
1 2-liter bottle
HOW:
1. Cut the plastic bottle in half.
2. Mix brown sugar with hot water. Let cool. When cold, mix with lemon water and pour in the bottom half of the bottle.
3. Add the yeast. No need to mix. It creates carbon dioxide.
4. Place the funnel part, upside down, into the other half of the bottle, taping them together if desired.
5. Wrap the bottle with something black, leaving the top uncovered, and place it outside in an area away from your normal gathering area. Change the solution every once a week for continuous control.
